Dahlstrom Manufacturing Co.’s sheet metal division, hard hit by loss of a major contract last spring, has been sold to Dawson Metal Co. Inc., it was announced Wednesday.

David G. Dawson, chief executive officer and board chairman of the Allen Street firm, said the two companies have signed a letter of intent and the transaction should be complete by fall. The purchase price was not announced.

The sheet metal operation will be consolidated at Dawson Metal. However, Dahlstrom’s roll form division and its finishing work will continue to operate at its Buffalo Street plant.

The expanded sheet metal operation will result in 20 to 40 additional jobs at Dawson Metal. The company now employs 103.

Dawson is executive director of the Chautauqua County Industrial Agency but he stressed the buyout is a private deal with no public funds involved.
