| One beautiful day in 1945 while muskellunge fishing on Chautauqua Lake near Jamestown, NY, Axel Dawson and his son George began talks on how the forming of an industrial and architectural metal fabrication business could take place. Exactly one year later, Axel and George began seeing their plans materialize when Dawson Metal Co., Inc. and Dawson Doors opened for business. Dawson Metal Company, Inc./Dawson Doors (d.b.a.) was first established in 1946 at 201 E. 1st Street, Jamestown. In 1954 operations moved to a larger complex to accommodate increased demand for Dawson quality products. With yet continual growth, Axel and George began talks for an eventual expansion into a new, one-floor, 51,000-sq.-ft. plant at 825 Allen Street, which is the current Jamestown address.
In 1966, with the original founders becoming seniors, the company needed a fresh outlook on the ever-changing sheet metal industry. George asked his son, John to offer his skills to the family business. John's brother, David Dawson, current President and CEO joined the family business in 1980. Since that point, the company has grown to a 180,000-sq.-ft facility with 150 talented professionals serving a broad spectrum of industrial and architectural customers worldwide.
